ACCESS will work with different educators to design
special skills building clubs offered to orphans and vulnerable children (OVC),
autistic and other mentally ill children. The skills area expected to be
addressed are carpentry, tailoring, and animal keeping, bricks-making and
gardening. Different age groups will be trained as appropriate to ensure that
they develop vocational skills and use it to improve the quality of life once
they are weaned off from the centre’s activities. Excursions and educational
visits will be part of the educational plans so that the disabled children are
not socially isolated, but be able to learn from their environment for their
future support.
ACCESS PROJECT is the acronym for Autism Community Care and Empowering Social Services Project. AUTISM is the medical condition affecting children that disrupts in various degrees, the ability to mentally develop and carry out expected roles as members of a society. The society that we live in do not understand autism or most of the related mental conditions such as epilepsy, mental retardation or psychosis.
